Xbook No. 65
A 4.25×6.25" 120-page journal with red handmade Cave Paper covers and vintage red-and-white Italian paper on the inside covers. Bound using a six-needle coptic structure with variegated mauve waxed linen thread. Six signatures of white 80# drawing paper printed in-house with a light red ¼" dot pattern — with hand-torn deckled fore-edges that lie completely flat when opened. Inside cover papers are vintage red-and-white Italian paper.
Six-needle coptic binding uses one length of thread and two needles for every two holes, with three threads and six needles used simultaneously. The thread sewn through the covers is usually horizontal, but I thought XXX would be fun — hence the name for the series.
I made a whole series of these a few years ago and only a few remain. Although I'll use this structure again, there won't be any more X-books — it was my first foray into six-needle binding, and a bit of a head-scratcher until I got the hang of it.
