Rick Graves learned photography in the 1960s from his father, a WWII Navy photographer, and he's been clicking away ever since. His formal training was in the performing arts, so perhaps it's not surprising that he's interested in the ways that the movement of light and form play together to create motion and emotion. He made the switch to digital photography several years ago but, with his background in film photography, he presents his work with little manipulation of the image.
Joni Graves is a former special librarian who appreciates the physicality of books. As a book artist, she uses several techniques and structures including coptic, long-stitch, stab, tacket, and criss-cross (aka, secret Belgian binding) to make journals, notebooks, albums, guestbooks, sketchbooks, and perpetual calendar diaries.
