White Window

WHITE WINDOW is a color photograph of a single six-pane casement window set into a thick wall of rough-coursed limestone, shot flat and straight-on so that the wall fills the frame entirely. The window is white-painted wood, slightly bowed and settled with age, the sill worn and the surround no longer quite square. The stone wall is warm gold and grey, the mortar irregular, the whole surface built by hand from whatever came to hand. The interior beyond the glass is dark, but a white curtain hangs behind the left panes, catching the sunlight and glowing in contrast with the blackness behind it. In the lower-left corner of the window, the bright green leaf of a houseplant presses against the glass — the only sign that the building is lived in. It is a photograph about the persistence of the domestic inside the ancient.

It is an original fine art photograph by Rick Graves, printed on exhibition-quality paper with Epson SureColor pigment inks. Hand-packed and shipped from our local post office in Spring Green, WI.
