where aBoBoBook began
Over the years, I'd taken a few book binding workshops, but they hadn't inspired me to change my life any more than jewelry making or Hungarian cooking. In 2014, I took a half-day workshop on coptic binding with Mary Sullivan — and I was smitten.
This book from the workshop is pretty crude, but I was head-over-heels about coptic binding. The coptic stitch looks like braid and, although I don't know why that's so powerful for me, I still feel the same thrill every time I do a coptic binding.
I went home, made similarly crude books for my friends and family, and then I had the audacity to think maybe I could get good at this ...
That's how aBoBoBook — named after our dear dog BoBo, who died around that time — got started and it's BoBo's sweet face that you see in our logo.
