WALNUT CREEK is a black-and-white photograph of a massive piece of weathered driftwood at Walnut Creek, Erie, Pennsylvania, photographed in 1966: the wood fills the frame, its surface deeply furrowed and twisted, the grain worn into dramatic whorls and hollows by years of water and weather; snow fills the crevices and surrounds the base, the white ground nearly merging with the pale sky to create a high-key, almost abstract background; the wood's texture is extraordinary — knotted, layered, and sculptural, with voids and projections that read almost as a living form; the image is quiet and elemental, a close study in the beauty of erosion and time.

It is an original fine art photograph by Rick Graves, scanned from the original negative, printed on exhibition-quality paper with Epson SureColor pigment inks. Hand-packed and shipped from our local post office in Spring Green, WI.
