Sunlight and Shadows

SUNLIGHT AND SHADOWS is a photograph of a chest of drawers, shot from a low angle in raking natural light. Diagonal bands of sunlight fall across the drawer fronts and their cup pulls, casting sharp shadows that divide the surface into geometric planes of light and dark. The light enters from a window above the frame, its source implied rather than shown, and the furniture becomes almost incidental — what the photograph is really about is the way light moves across a still interior on an ordinary day.

The image is an original fine art photograph by Rick Graves, printed on exhibition-quality paper with Epson SureColor pigment inks. Hand-packed and shipped from our local post office in Spring Green, WI.
