Stairway
STAIRWAY is a color photograph shot looking upward through the interior of a glass and steel staircase, the treads translucent green-tinted glass, the structure white-painted steel, the whole assembly suspended against a curtain wall of blue glass that fills the frame with sky and reflected light. The staircase rises in a zigzag of sharp chevrons — each landing reversing direction — so that the white structural members form a repeating V-pattern that recedes toward the upper floors. Tension cables run vertically between the treads, fine and precise against the blue. The light is cool and abundant, the kind that only comes through a glass facade on a clear day, and the photograph makes the building feel like it is made primarily of air.
It is an original fine art photograph by Rick Graves, printed on exhibition-quality paper with Epson SureColor pigment inks. Hand-packed and shipped from our local post office in Spring Green, WI.
