Rovio
ROVIO The image is a black-and-white portrait photograph of a narrow village alley in Rovio, canton of Ticino, Switzerland, taken when Rick lived abroad: ancient stone walls rise on both sides of the lane, the right wall rough-hewn and massive, its surface patched and irregular, a small stepped threshold projecting onto the cobbles; the left wall is rendered plaster, smoother, with louvered shutters on the upper windows; the wet cobblestone lane reflects a pale sky, the stones dark and glistening; the alley narrows toward a bright opening at the far end where a white stucco building with a wrought iron balcony catches the light; a figure is just barely visible in the distance, small against the architecture; the image is quiet and unhurried — a village that has been exactly this narrow, exactly this still, for five hundred years.
It is an original fine art photograph by Rick Graves, scanned from the original negative, printed on exhibition-quality paper with Epson SureColor pigment inks. Hand-packed and shipped from our local post office in Spring Green, WI.
