Presque Isle Calling

PRESQUE ISLE CALLING Color landscape photograph of a vintage open-sided telephone booth standing in deep winter snow at Presque Isle, Erie, Pennsylvania, taken more than sixty years ago; the booth is a mid-century municipal design — a white metal hood bearing the word TELEPHONE in bold dark red letters, mounted above three panels of translucent green glass that enclose three sides of the booth; a coiled phone cord hangs from the interior wall, its handset long gone; bare deciduous trees rise behind the booth in a grey winter wood, a small outbuilding just visible in the distance; the snow is unbroken around the base of the pole; the image is a time capsule twice over — a photograph of a vanished technology, made on film that itself has now outlasted the booth, the phone, and the era entire. 

It is an original fine art photograph by Rick Graves, scanned from the original slide, printed on exhibition-quality paper with Epson SureColor pigment inks. Hand-packed and shipped from our local post office in Spring Green, WI.
