Geared Up
GEARED UP is a black-and-white close-up photograph of a large cast-iron gear, shot straight-on so that the wheel fills most of the frame. Five spokes radiate from a bolted hub at the center, and the gear's teeth run around the full circumference in sharp, even relief. Behind it, a grid of industrial metalwork — rails, grating, diamond plate — recedes into darkness, flattening into pattern rather than depth. The image is dense with texture and mechanical detail, but the composition is calm: the gear is simply, completely itself.
The image is an original fine art photograph by Rick Graves, printed on exhibition-quality paper with Epson SureColor pigment inks. Hand-packed and shipped from our local post office in Spring Green, WI.
