• Sculpture of a child long-nestled within the branching trunks of a banyan tree. Photograph by Rick Graves.

Cherub

Regular price $25.00 USD

CHERUB is a color photograph of a sculpture of a child, nestled within the branching trunks and forks of a banyan tree, lit from above so that the figure emerges from deep shadow into warm, dappled light. The branches wrap around the figure on all sides — some smooth and pale, others fibrous and dark — so that it is difficult to say whether the tree is holding the sculpture or slowly consuming it. The child's face tilts upward, eyes closed, expression serene — the neck broken, the stone chipped and lichened — indifferent to both the encroachment and the damage. The stone and the wood have been together long enough that they have begun to look like the same material.

The image is an original fine art photograph by Rick Graves, printed on exhibition-quality paper with Epson SureColor pigment inks. Hand-packed and shipped from our local post office in Spring Green, WI.
