Three textures, three zones — vertical siding, lattice and, in negative space, a diagonal slash of pure black — held in precise tension. The black is not absence: in the Japanese tradition of ma (間), negative space is not empty but charged, a presence as deliberate as anything it borders. Rick found this geometry in the ordinary world and made it monumental.
CHECKERED PAST is an original fine art photograph by Rick Graves, printed on exhibition-quality paper with Epson SureColor pigment inks. Hand-packed and shipped from our local post office in Spring Green, WI.
