CCCCC
CCCCC is a color photograph of a type case filled with large wooden letterpress characters, shot close and flat so that the letters crowd the frame in dense, overlapping rows. The wood blocks range from pale honey to deep walnut, stained further by decades of ink — black, rust, amber, slate — so that each letter carries its own tonal history. The bottom row is all C's, which is where the title comes from and where the eye keeps returning: five of them in a line, same form, different color, each one slightly worn in its own way. The image is about repetition and variation, about the beauty of a thing made by hand and used until it shows it.
The image is an original fine art photograph by Rick Graves, printed on exhibition-quality paper with Epson SureColor pigment inks. Hand-packed and shipped from our local post office in Spring Green, WI.
